Yesenia Guerra, MA, LPC

As a Licensed Professional Counselor, since 2012, I have worked extensively with individuals challenged by trauma, grief, life changes, anxiety, codependency, and self-esteem issues. Additionally, while working with individuals experiencing homelessness, survivors of trauma, and individuals recovering from addiction, I had the privilege of organizing and leading support groups, psycho-educational groups, and yoga-based mindfulness groups, which facilitated the development of healthy coping skills, healing, and recovery. Regarding my education, I earned my bachelor’s degree in psychology, from The University of The Incarnate Word, in 2004, and my Master’s degree in Community Counseling, from The University of Texas, in 2008. My current areas of special interest include self-esteem, anxiety, and adjustment issues, with a passion for empowering others to love themselves and to recognize their worth.
My Philosophy & Therapeutic Approach:
I strongly believe that what you gain from therapy, will greatly depend on your effort and willingness to do the work required for your healing and improvement. I also believe that to achieve optimal success from therapy, a team effort of collaboration may be most helpful and beneficial. I will collaborate with you to identify unhealthy patterns that may be contributing to your symptoms or are blocking you from achieving your goals, and will work with you to identify areas of strength that may help you to overcome current/potential obstacles, along with potential areas for healing and/or improvement that may help you to establish optimal health on a holistic level
(mentally, physically, relationally, and/or spiritually). Moreover, I view our relationship as a professional, collaborative relationship that requires a foundation of mutual trust, respect, and cooperation. I will strive to establish a safe atmosphere that is built on transparency (to foster trust), compassion, and unconditional acceptance, and may help you to recognize blind spots, when needed. Together, we will establish a treatment plan that may work best for you, depending on your specific needs and/or preferences.
Treatment Modalities: Person-centered, Cognitive Behavior, Dialectical Behavior, Solution-Focused, Psycho-educational, Holistic &/or Faith-based therapies /approaches may be utilized, as needed and/or per your specified preferences.
